Dungeness A. Power Station

Site: Dungeness 'A' Power Station - Kent
Client: Magnox PLC
Contractor: Edmund Nuttall Ltd.

Jacking of 4,980 tonne steam drum housing for installation of permanent seismic bearings.

Worked in conjunction with Hydra Capsule Ltd. The load displacement and movement were continually monitored throughout the lifting operations.

The lift required was to NOT exceed 1mm.
The jacking was carried out using a combination of flat jacks and standard hydraulic jacks, all operated and monitored from one position.
Due to the nature of the site the working conditions were not the easiest, or for that matter, the coldest!
All the flat jacks were permanently transfused with grout once the required lift height and load displacement had been achieved.

We received excellent co-operation from both the contractor and the client, so much so that the project was completed 8 days ahead of programme.
